Race Plate Guide

Race plates are a key part of BMX racing,  they identify your category, number and age group, and they’re mandatory at all official events. Race plate colours depend on your category.

Having your name on, and the design are all down to personal choice and non-mandatory elements. Side plates are also required at most races.

Want the full club look on race day?

DBMX riders can order official plates and stickers through our partner Moto1, including front and side plates in club colours.

Side Plates

Side plates are required for most BMX races and must be clearly visible on both sides of the bike.

They help officials identify riders as they pass through the track, especially during close racing and high-speed sections where front plates may not always be visible.

Side plates should follow a standard format:

  • White background

  • Black numbers

  • Mounted securely on both sides of the bike

Numbers must be easy to read from a distance and match your main race plate.
